Golden sand, clear water and blue skies, mean the Beaches of Playa Blanca are great places to lay back, chill out and top up your tan.
Here are the different beaches of Playa Blanca
PLAYA DORADA
Dorada beach offers easy access to the services of Playa Blanca, with calm waves, ideal for water sports such as jet-skiing or paragliding. The sea in this part of the coast is calm, so the beach of Playa Dorada is very poular with families.
PLAYA BLANCA
The white beach - from which the town makes it's name - has a European Blue Flag for cleanliness and is at the heart of the resort.
It's central location means that there is no shortage of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as the other shops and amenities you might need, to make your sunbathing a pleasure.
PLAYA FLAMINGO
A few minutes walk to the west of the town along the sea-front walkway, is the Playa Flamingo beach which is also very clean, safe and attractive.
Although it is outside of the town centre, there are still a number of shops and restaurants to stock up during the day.
This is the nearest (sandy) beach to the newer developments around Montaña Roja and the lighthouse at Pechiguera, such as Faro Park, Carlos Park and Shangrila.
PLAYA PAPAGAYO
Perhaps the most well known of all the beaches around Playa Blanca is Papagayo.
In reality this is a collection of smaller beaches that are separated by high cliffs, forming a number of sheltered bays.
This area has been protected and is now a national park which can be accessed by a rather bumpy dirt road or by the coastal pathway which starts at the eastern end of the resort. There is a small charge to use the road, but this is certainly well worth the cost.
You can also reach Papagayo by Water Taxi from the harbour in Playa Blanca.
Although access to the beaches at Papagayo is relatively easy, it is quite a distance from any of the main residential or tourist developments. There are very few services at the beach, so if you plan on spending the day there, you need to go prepared.
PLAYA DE LAS COLORADAS
Playa de las Coloradas is a cosy, intimate beach close to the resort of Playa Blanca on Lanzarote’s southern coast. The warm, turquoise sea is tempting, the volcanic sand with pebbles, soothing and the sunshine is simply wonderful. This is not a hectic environment but rather a place for quiet relaxation. At just over 400 metres long, the stretch of sand is a good place for children to play or for a romantic stroll along the shore. A lovely promenade runs close to the beach with many restaurants and bars serving traditional tapas, fresh fish and an array of international dishes.
